He graduated in Physics from the University of Coimbra and an MSc in Technology and Innovation from the University of Aveiro with a Master’s Dissertation in technology-based startups.  António had their first entrepreneurial experience, creating one of the first e-commerce startups in Portugal with moderate success. Still, he had to work for other organisations where he achieved significant results.

 He contributed to creating the Intellectual Property Office at the University of Porto and the foundations of the Technology Transfer Office. His performance at the University of Porto resulted in a Portuguese Innovation Agency (ANI) invitation to manage the SMEs’ Incentive programs. He was responsible, for example, for an EU co-financing program that supported R&D in the private sector by creating more than 120 R&D nuclei in SMEs.

Later, as Executive Director of the Biotechnology Research Center (Biocant) and, later, Director of the association of the Information and Communication Technologies Innovation Ecosystem in Aveiro (led by the R&D division of the national telecom company, PT Inovação), he supported these non-profit organisations to achieve their goals in fundraising to fulfil its missions and to obtain measurable results to create change in each of its technological areas.

The public service calling resulted in an invitation for a technical secretary position of the Norte 2020 Management Authority for the Portuguese government’s regional entity (CCDR-N, NORTE 2020). António managed the European funds for the Northern Region of Portugal in R&D and innovation for companies and universities between 2015 and 2016.

Taking advantage of all this experience, he launched a well-advised company, WellAdvisedCo, which provides specialised advisory services in innovation and sustainability. António loves to work on new ideas and projects to set up knowledge-based business opportunities. He has worked with some of the most innovative companies and universities in Portugal, helping them move faster, be bolder and increase the impact of their creations.
